Top Jockey Lisa Allpress takes the opportunity to ride with and against some of the world's leading jockeys on one of the greatest racing stages. New Zealand's champion jockey has accepted an invitation to compete in the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup at Ascot on August 10. The series will feature a Girls' Team captained by the English based Hayley Turner riding off against a best of the Rest of the World side captained by United States Hall of Fame jockey Gary Stevens. "It's pretty exciting and it's all expenses paid and business class so it will be an amazing experience for both of us." Her husband Karl will accompany her. " Jack Petley has been very pro active and good to me." Petley is a board member of the International Racing Bureau, a former New Zealand racing journalist now based in Sydney. "He put my name forward to represent Australasia and I"m so lucky he chose me and I"m so thankful for the opportunity, it's going to be incredible. I'm planning to ride at Otaki on July 28 and we'll head off the following day and be back home on August 14 and then we leave again for Singapore on the 18th." Allpress, who has a 3 month contract with the Singapore Turf Club, will also be catching up in England with Vikki Launder (nee Costa), another former Kevin Gray apprentice. "She's working for Godolphin in Newmarket and I'm going to be riding some trackwork for them." The Shergar Cup, Britain's premier jockeys' competition with sides from Great Britain and Ireland, Europe, the Rest of the World and the girls' team , will be contested on a points basis over six races limited to 10 runners and each jockey will have 5 rides. Last season's premiership winner with 159 winners, Allpress will be a team mate of United States' highest profile female rider Rosie Napravnik. The Rest of the World side will also include Japanese ace Yasunari Iwata, who guided Delta Blues to victory in the 2006 Melbourne Cup, and Singapore star Joao Moreira. Recent Articles
