BLACK CAVIAR'S 19th Win equals Australian Record
  • Her victory equals the long-standing record of consecutive wins held by Desert Gold and Gloaming.

Trainer Peter Moody said Hay List was the only horse that had made Black Caviar fight.

‘‘He\'s a great horse but he\'s just unfortunate that he\'s in an era where he\'s run into a flying freak, I suppose,\'\' Moody said.

\'\'She\'s the best horse and we weren\'t going to be dictated by horses that weren\'t as good as her and Luke Nolen rode her accordingly.\'\'

Hay List took up the running in the early stages of the race but with Black Caviar coming back in distance, Nolen ensured he did not drift back and she settled close up on the inside of Hay List with Buffering not far away on the inside.

Hay List still held a margin at the 500m and Nolen started to urge the great mare along. By the time they got to the 250m she had his measure and Nolen eased her down over the final 50m to win by 1 3/4 lengths.

Buffering finished third, two lengths away.

\'\'I\'ve got to take my hat off to her, that mare, she\'s bloody wonderful,’’ Nolen said.

‘‘She really touched me today. The chips were down and she showed a lot of courage.\'\'

Black Caviar ran her sectional between the 600m and 400m in an amazing 9.98 seconds.

The win took the unbeaten mare\'s prizemoney past the $5 million mark.

The original plan had been to back Black Caviar up in the Futurity Stakes at Caulfield next Saturday but Moody indicated that she is unlikely to head there after such a tough run.

She might now head overseas without another run in Australia.

\'\'I could pretty much say she won\'t be there next week,’’ he said.

‘‘She\'s probably had it too tough to butter up three weeks in a row.

\'\'I\'ve got to sit down with the owners but if she goes to Dubai she\'s probably run her last race in Australia for the prep.\'\'

The racing world has not seen such a winning streak for almost a century.

Desert Gold won 19 consecutive races between 1915 and 1917 and Gloaming\'s wins spanned 1919-21.
