A real gutsy effort saw ANTONIO LOMBARDO take out the Group 3 Waikato Stud Classic for the 2 year olds at New Plymouth on Saturday.

The colt by PINS - PETIT VERDOT is trained by Peter McKay and was ridden by Opire Bosson, he jumped well from the inside and led them up, the Australian trained CHATEANUEUF DUPAPE challenged strongly on the home turn and took the lead half way down, It took a real determined bid by ANTONIO LOMBARDO but he reclaimed the lead close to the line to go on and win by a nose, DISTILL was 1 1/2 lengths away in third.

ANTONIO LOMBARDO has now won 3 of his 6 starts and has stake earnings of 250k. He ran the 1200m in 1.10.53
