ROCK ON RYE takes the Greymouth CupThe Monteith's Brewing Company Greymouth Cup was taken out on Saturday in fine fashion by ROCK ON RYE. Jockey Chris Johnson dropped him out in the early running to be 2 lengths last for the first lap, he improved from the 1000 meters to hug the rail on the home turn, angle out and go to the line strongly winning by a half head. GIGI ROX fought well for second with MALACHITE the pacemaker holding on well to be 3/4 of a length away in third. The 5 year old mare by CATCHER IN THE RYE is trained by Peter Rudkin, " I decide if she pulled up well from her race midweek I would start her here, I have only had her for four starts and prior to today she had never backed up, we know she backs up now." It has been great to see the imput from trainer's and the TAB with various fund raising schemes, the proceeds going to the families of Miner's lost in the Pike River mine disaster in what has been a tough time for all.
