  • MIDNIGHT OIL takes out the Wellfield New Zealand Oaks at Trentham on Saturday giving apprentice jockey Rosie Myers her first Group 1 success.

It was a great ride, she settled midfield one off the rail in a race that had four leaders in the early stages, went forward from the 600 meter mark and elected to come back to the inside and finished brilliantly on the rail to score by a 1/2 length, ZENNISTA was a courageous second after leading into the straight, INSURGENT was a 1/2 a length away in third. The 2400 meters was run in 2.30.04

The 3 year old filly by KEEPER - GILDERED LIGHT is trained by Paul Duncan. She has had 8 starts for 4 wins.

Rosie Myers, " It's just priceless, to be honest i didn't really have have all that much control she was so very strong but at the end of the day she was very strong at the finish as well. When you've got a horse underneath you it's easy to find those gaps."

Paul Duncan." It's been a big effort by everybody, the staff have done a fantastic job especially Gail who is looking after her there now. She was unlucky in the Sir Tristram Classic and a huge run at Hastings, to be honest I thought she might have needed the ground a little bit softer." when asked about his decision to retain Rosie for the ride. " I spent about a week thinking about it and we had a few offers but she rode all my horses very well at Hastings the other day so she deserved to have a crack."
