SHOWCAUSE the G.2 City of Auckland CupSHOWCAUSE took out the G.2 City of Auckland Cup in fine style at Ellerslie on New Years Day. Trained by Frank Ritchie and ridden by Darryl Bradley the 5 year old gelding by GIANT'S CAUSEWAY did not have that much luck in the early running and was three wide leaving the straight, in a top ride by Bradley he did not panic and kept rolling forward to get the one one going down the back, he switched off heels on the home turn and finished well down the outside. The New Zealand Cup winner fought all the way to the line winning by a head, CASSINI also fought well for second with RED RULER finishing on to be a further three quarters of a length away in third. Trainer and Jockey interviewed after the race. Frank Ritchie, " He almost seemed to have come of age today, he's done really well since the Waikato Gold Cup." Darryl Bradley, " Unbelievable, what a great New Year's present that is. I'm very proud of my ride on that horse, we were three wide round the corner the first time, down the back I slotted forward and got in the one-one, he just relaxed for me nicely and turning for home I had hand fulls."
